How to get UNstuck
Do you ever feel like you’re running in a hamster wheel? You just keep running and running but never seem to get anywhere?
This is what it feels like to be STUCK.
Maybe your goal is to develop better eating habits, or lose a few pounds, or go to the gym regularly. Maybe it’s to be more productive, or spend more time with your family, or spend less money! Whatever the goal, you have moments when you feel like you are never going to succeed.
I totally hear you.
Here is a simple 4-step process to get out of this rut when you find yourself in it!
1 – Recognize Where You Are At
The first step to getting unstuck, is to recognize when you ARE stuck. It is so common for us to latch onto a thought or fear and feel as though it will never change. Just think of any moment you felt sad or depressed in any area of your life. Did you think “Oh, I will feel better tomorrow”, or are you more prone to think that you will never be happy again!? If the latter is true, this is completely normal. Simply recognize that this happens and that it is NOT an accurate projection of your future.
2 – Let It Go
When you find yourself in this projection mode, thinking that you are doomed to fail or will be unable to produce change, let go of that thought. Remind yourself that it is simply a projection of how you are feeling, and not at all a prediction of the real future. This will begin to loosen your belief.
3 – Focus On Your Senses
It’s so easy to THINK about a problem, analyze it, talk to ourselves about it, and work ourselves up into a false story about it. Instead of going down this road of destruction, bring your focus to your body’s senses. How does your body FEEL? Tight, constricted, overwhelmed, weighed down, pain, congested, foggy, sluggish, drained, heavy? These are all common sensations in this place of feeling stuck. Allow yourself to feel them, and know these feelings will not last forever.
4 – Plan Your Next Step
Once you’ve reached a place of being in your body instead of your mind, and are aware that your current feelings do not predict your future, take a small step in the right direction. Just ONE step. Don’t try to solve or do everything at once. Perhaps this one step will be to look up some information, to eat a salad for your next meal, or to take a short walk around the block. This small act will bring you out of “fear mode” and back into “being and doing mode”. This is the mode you want to be in to produce change 🙂
I hope you will test this out for yourself and enjoy the benefits!
