Super Simple Weight Loss Trick
If you have kids, or have ever watched a baby eat, did you notice how they make sounds of pleasure when they are eating something they enjoy??
Sort of like hmmmm, hmmmm, yummmm, mmmmm!
Well to be honest, they’re totally on to something.
When we are PRESENT when we eat (meaning we aren’t watching TV, working, internet surfing, etc) we improve our digestion, absorption of nutrients and metabolic rate!!
When we eat in a PLEASURABLE manner, this inhibits the stress response, which also results in improved digestion, absorption of nutrients, and higher calorie-burning ability.
Isn’t that great?!
So often we eat quickly and with our minds elsewhere. The problem with this is that digestion starts in the mind. When we see food, smell food, and think about eating food, digestive juices get released and the body prepares for food intake. If we stop this process to watch a YouTube video or think about all the work we have left to do, our digestion turns down and our brains don’t fully register that we have eaten.
This leads to indigestion, or that feeling that your food is just “sitting” in your stomach. You may also find yourself still hungry because your brain never received the proper stimuli to register fullness.
Consider how often you eat a day. How many days there are in a year. How many years there are in your lifetime. That’s a LOT of meals!
Similarly, stress will also slow down digestion and impact nutrient absorption and metabolism.
It makes sense. I mean you don’t want to be spending energy on digestion and absorption when you may have to fight or flight. Therefore, when we stress, the body goes into “storage” mode, losses nutrients, and stops building muscle.
The brain will receive signals during prolonged stress to eat high energy foods in preparation for fight or flight. This makes it impossible to lose weight when you are constantly stressing about real and imagined things.
Now imagine if you just took the time to be fully aware of what you’re eating. Give your brain the chance to fully process that. And then add in that sense of pleasure, which will calm the stress response and all the negative effects that come with it.
You would digest better, absorb more nutrients, feel fuller, enjoy your meal, and increase your metabolism.
WOW!
Do you think you would feel better, be healthier, and lose some excess pounds?
I think so 🙂
