What’s In Your Way?
Welcome to 2017!
Entering into a new year always brings about a sense of urgency to CHANGE. To do things differently. To be a better, improved version of ourselves.
The approach we take generally looks something like:
“I’m going to eat healthier.”
“I’m going to lose weight.”
“I’m going to be more active.”
“I’m going to make more money. ”
“I’m going to spend more time with my kids and friends.”
I was reminded recently of a very useful tool for helping such goals come to fruition:
Go through the doors that are open. Go around the doors that are closed.
This is simply genius, because it advises us to go with the flow of life. To take the route that is presented to us in the present moment. To choose ease of passage instead of resistance. To say YES to what is already in front of you, instead of constantly searching for something that is not.
Of course, sometimes it’s important to forge your own path and say no to things that don’t serve you. When these actions EXPAND your heart space, it is a clear indication that you are doing the right thing.
But most of the time, doesn’t it feel good to let go and let be? Doesn’t it feel liberating to know that you don’t have to fight your way through life, that you can simply move in the direction that life is already leading you?
Often we struggle to DO, and PUSH and FIX in order to get what we want from our bodies and from life. But what if the path of least resistance is to simply remove that which is standing in the way? That which blocks our doorway, our path….
For example, in the field of health I regularly hear from my clients: “I’ve tried everything. I exercise almost daily and I eat a very healthy diet. I meditate. I do everything that the books and the gurus tell me to do but nothing works. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.”
Instinctively, we have the urge to add something that will help us heal. More nutrients, more exercise, more water, more relaxation. We are compelled to add to or change what we are doing, instead of looking for what may be already present that is getting in the way of what we want to accomplish.
In the case of health issues like abdominal bloating and arthritis, inflammation and food sensitivities are a primary culprit. I always recommend testing to find out exactly what foods are getting in the way of the body being able to heal and optimise itself.
In the case of weight management, hormone imbalances and stress are the most common offenders. Both are strongly related to food intake and intolerances, in addition to our thoughts and emotions. Removing these factors that keep the body in a state of alarm, ultimately makes weight loss easy.
These are just a couple of examples. Play with the areas in YOUR life where you wish to have a different experience. Perhaps what is really needed is a gentle removal of what’s no longer serving you, whether that be certain foods, certain people, certain activities, or certain thoughts.
