Why do this?
Well researchers at UCLA discovered that clutter has a profound affect on our mood and self esteem. This seems particularly relevant for women, who were found to have increased cortisol levels (stress hormone) with increased household objects.
We don’t need studies, however, to show us that clutter can be overwhelming. Ever notice how you feel instantly better after tidying up a particularly messy office or kitchen? It physically and energetically frees up space – to live and to breathe.
Paying closer attention to your diet and getting rid of processed foods and chemicals will help to detoxify your body and support the liver.
When it comes to de-cluttering anything, try to make it a habit. For example, every time you walk through a room, pick up and put away at least one thing. When you shop for food, choose the products that will contribute the most nutrition and the fewest chemicals.
Have stuff you no longer use? Put it all in a box and put that box in a closet until next spring. If you have no desire to open it by then, get rid of it.
Get creative. Have fun. Let go of the old. Make space for the new.
