hidden food triggers

Your Gut Needed More Than Another Diet

Hidden food triggers can drive chronic gut issues, fatigue, brain fog, skin flares, migraines, and inflammatory symptoms even when you are eating carefully. MRT food sensitivity testing and the LEAP protocol help identify your unique immune triggers and build a personalized plan instead of guessing. For many people, deeper healing also means addressing the stress-inflammation connection, the nervous system, and the emotional patterns that keep the body on high alert.

There is a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from doing “everything right” and still not feeling well.

You eat clean. You avoid the obvious culprits. You have tried supplements, protocols, lab work, maybe even multiple practitioners. You may have been told your results look normal, or that stress is the problem, or that you just need to be more disciplined.

But your body keeps sending signals.

Bloating after meals. Digestion that changes without warning. Heavy fatigue that does not match your life. Brain fog. Skin irritation. Migraines. Achiness. Food reactions that make no sense. A nervous system that feels like it can never fully exhale.

If that is where you are, we want you to hear this clearly: your symptoms are not random, and they are not all in your head.

One of our clients, Alexis A., described what happened when she finally found an approach that looked at the whole picture.

First of all, WOW! I never thought that I would find a health practitioner that would encompass mind, body and spirit in so much depth. I really felt pulled to work with Megan and it was the right decision. She is a pleasure to work with and I really got to dive deep into physical, emotional and psychological blocks which were greatly impacting my life. Her program includes hypnosis and energy techniques as well which are so impactful! In the live sessions she allows you to go deep into anything that is holding you back, not only in your health, but in any area of your life. Because all areas impact your health and well-being. This is true healing. It has improved my digestion, my mental clarity, my energy levels, my relationships… Thank you so much!

Why food can still be a problem when you eat well

Many people assume that if a food is “healthy,” anti-inflammatory, organic, or unprocessed, it should be safe for their body.

But immune reactions are personal.

A food that supports one person may trigger inflammation in another. Salmon, blueberries, spinach, almonds, avocado, chicken, turmeric, or green tea can all be wonderful foods in general and still be inflammatory for a specific immune system.

That is why guessing often fails.

Hidden food triggers are not always the foods you suspect. They are not always gluten or dairy. They may be foods you eat every day because they seem safe, nourishing, or part of a clean diet.

When your immune system reacts to a food or food chemical, it can release inflammatory mediators. These chemical messengers can contribute to symptoms in the gut, skin, brain, joints, and nervous system.

Common signs may include:

  • Bloating, reflux, constipation, diarrhea, or unpredictable digestion
  • Brain fog, fatigue, low motivation, or trouble focusing
  • Migraines, sinus issues, skin flares, joint pain, or autoimmune-type symptoms
  • Feeling reactive to foods despite eating a careful diet

Why a generic elimination diet may not be enough

Most elimination diets remove the same common foods for everyone. They can sometimes help, but they are still based on averages.

MRT is different.

MRT, or Mediator Release Testing, is a blood test that measures how your immune cells respond to a wide range of foods and food chemicals. Instead of relying on symptoms alone, MRT helps identify the hidden food triggers that may be activating your inflammatory response.

Then the LEAP protocol uses those results to build a phased, personalized eating plan.

This matters because precision changes the entire conversation. Instead of cutting out more and more foods out of fear, the goal is to identify what your body is actually reacting to and create a calm, structured path forward.

The LEAP protocol is not a generic elimination diet. It is designed around your immune system, your results, and your symptom pattern.

The body also heals through the nervous system

Food triggers can be a major driver of inflammation, but they are rarely the only part of the story.

The gut and nervous system are deeply connected. Chronic stress can keep the immune system in a state of activation, making food-driven inflammation worse. Trauma, emotional suppression, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and subconscious stress patterns can all influence digestion, immune regulation, sleep, hormones, and pain signaling.

That does not mean your symptoms are emotional instead of physical.

It means your biology is listening to everything: food, stress, safety, sleep, relationships, grief, pressure, and past experiences.

This is why our approach includes both precision functional testing and deeper mind-body healing when appropriate. MRT and LEAP help us reduce inflammatory input from food and chemicals. Somatic practices, nervous system recalibration, medical hypnotherapy, inner child work, and trauma repair can help the body shift out of survival mode.

For some clients, that combination is where things finally start to make sense.

What improvement can actually feel like

Healing is not about chasing a perfect diet or forcing your body to behave.

It can look like waking up with a clearer head. Eating without bracing for symptoms. Having steadier energy through the day. Feeling less inflamed, less reactive, less trapped in your body.

It can also look like noticing that your relationships feel easier because your nervous system is not constantly overwhelmed. Or realizing that your digestion improves when your body feels safer.

This is why we look at the whole person. The food matters. The inflammatory pathways matter. The mind-body connection matters too.

When we identify hidden food triggers and support nervous system regulation, we are not asking your body to fight harder. We are helping it feel less threatened.

That is often where healing begins.

FAQ

What are hidden food triggers?

Hidden food triggers are foods or food chemicals that activate your immune system even if they are considered healthy. They can contribute to inflammation-related symptoms like bloating, fatigue, migraines, brain fog, skin issues, or joint pain.

How is MRT different from a regular elimination diet?

MRT is a blood test that helps identify your personal inflammatory food and chemical triggers. The LEAP protocol then uses those results to create a customized eating plan, rather than removing the same foods for everyone.

Can stress make food sensitivity symptoms worse?

Yes. Chronic stress can keep the immune system activated and increase inflammatory signaling. The gut-brain axis links digestion, immune function, and the nervous system, which is why deeper healing may include nervous system regulation and mind-body practices.

If you have been trying to solve your symptoms by working harder, restricting more, or guessing at what your body needs, there may be a clearer path.

Our virtual practice serves clients across the US and Canada with MRT testing, the LEAP protocol, and whole-person support for deeper healing.
